The core of the BlastMatch is a darn great tent-peg of "ferrocerium", the mixture of rare earth elements, iron, iron oxide and magnesium oxide that normal lighter "flints" are made from. The other parts are a steel scraper, a spring and a plastic case.
Spring loaded for compactness, the flint rod also rotates 360 degrees to help prevent uneven wear and tear. the flint rod has a lifetime warrantee and will be replaced if you ever wear it out. A tungsten carbide striker build into the striker button is set at the perfect angle for maximum sparking - taking the guess work out of starting a fire.
